EXPLAIN THE MECHANISM OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS
It is the process by which autotrophic green plants containg chlorophyll make their own food we term it as photosynthesis to explain the mechanism of photosynthesis. Plants make their food with the help of regular inorganic substances like carbon dioxide and water in presence of sunlight and green pigment or chlorophyll.
SITE OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS
The process of photosynthesis takes place in green leaves, inside chloroplast. That is why, we refer leaves as food factories of plants to explain the mechanism of photosynthesis.. This process can occur in other green parts containg chlorophyll of plant like stem but is not enough for meeting all the needs of plants.
REACTION INVOLVED IN THE PROCEE TO EXPLAIN THE MECHANISM OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS
We to explain the mechanism of photosynthesis by following equation
Carbon dioxide + water sunlight/chlorophyll => Glucose (carbohydrate ) + Oxygen (released in air)
RAW MATERIAL TO EXPLAIN THE MECHANISM OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS
The plants intake inorganic raw material carbon dioxide from air, through tiny pores present on the surface of leaves which we term as stomata to explain the mechanism of photosynthesis.. Plants absorb water through the roots from soil. Vascular tissues transport the water into leaves. These tissues form continuous path from roots to leaves for the movement of nutrients.
ENERGY SOURCE IN REACTION TO EXPLAIN THE MECHANISM OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS
Green plants possess chlorophyll in their leaves which captures the energy of the sunlight. Plants use this light energy to prepare food by exciting chlorophyll. Plant releases oxygen during this process. Leaves capture solar energy to perform this unique process to explain the mechanism of photosynthesis. By this process plants store starch as food. In this way sun is the ultimate source of energy for all the living organisms.
PRODUCTS OF THE PROCESS TO EXPLAIN THE MECHANISM OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS
By the process photosynthesis, plant produces mainly carbohydrate. This glucose later on turn into starch. During starch test we can understand the presence of starch which indicates that green plants containg chlorophyll execute photosynthesis.
IMPORTANCE OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS TO EXPLAIN THE MECHANISM OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS
If the plants do not perform photosynthesis, there would be no food on earth. Photosynthesis is also necessary for the production of oxygen gas in atmosphere which is necessary for respiration of all living organisms. Therefore, we can say that no life is possible in the absence of photosynthesis in to explain the mechanism of photosynthesis.
PHOTOSYNTHESIS IN LEAVES OF VARIOUS COLORS
In green plants, chlorophyll absorbs light-energy from the sun to perform photosynthesis. Besides some green color plants like Croton, Maple, Colocasia etc. have leaves that are red, brown, violet color (variegated). These colors are present in large amounts and masks the green color of chlorophyll in leaves. These colored leaves are capable of doing photosynthesis to produce starch.
SYNTHESISE OF PLANT FOOD OTHER THAN CARBOHYDRATE
Plant produces the simplest carbohydrate that is glucose. Carbon, Hydrogen, and oxygen constitute starch. Sometimes the simplest form of carbohydrate are utilized to synthesis other forms of nutrients like fats, proteins etc to explain the mechanism of photosynthesis.Starch or glucose is rich in some other plant parts like wheat or rice grains and underground stem like potato. Sometimes the starch or glucose is stored in the form of oil in their seeds, e.g. sunflower seed. When the plant nutrient contains carbon, hydrogen and oxygen along with nitrogen elements, then we term as protein. The element nitrogen comes from soil in the form of nitrate by the actions of some bacteria present in soil and form amino acid which are then converted into proteins. Therefore, plants also make fats and proteins as their food.
CONCEPTUAL QUESTIONS ON PHOTOSYNTHESIS DONE BY CHLOROPHYLL
Qs1: What is the function of guard cells of stomata?
Ans1: Guard cells help in controlling the opening and closing of stomata for gaseous exchange to explain the mechanism of photosynthesis.
Qs2: Which types of molecules make up the carbohydrate?
Ans2: carbon, Hydrogen and oxygen constitute carbohydrate in to explain the mechanism of photosynthesis.
Qs3: Why do plants feed on insects?
Ans3: Insectivorous plants grow in the soil which lacks nitrogen. So, these plant attract insect to get protein so that they can fulfill the demand of nitrogen in to explain the mechanism of photosynthesis.
Qs4: Why are algae green in color?
Ans4: Algae are autotrophic organism. They can synthesis their food in their body with the help of green pigment chlorophyll. This pigment imparts green color to algae to explain the mechanism of photosynthesis.
ANSWER IN BRIEF IN TO EXPLAIN THE MECHANISM OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS
Qs5: What is the stored food form in sunflower seeds?
Ans5: Sunflower seeds store glucose in the form of oils in to explain the mechanism of photosynthesis.
Qs6: We boil leaf in water for testing the presence of starch in leaves, justify.
Ans6: We can remove chlorophyll by boiling leaf in water.
HIGHER ORDER THINKING SKILL ON TO EXPLAIN THE MECHANISM OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS BY CHLOROPHYLL
Qs7: Why do we keep Cuscuta in parasitic plant?
Ans7 Cuscuta derives its nutrition from its host plant where it gets shelter. This plant associates with host plant and absorbs most part of valuable nutrients with the help of haustoria. So, we term Cuscuta asparasitic plant.
Qs8: What do you mean by saprotrophic mode of nutrition?
Ans8: The mode of nutrition in which living organisms intake nutrient from the dead and decaying matter, then we term those animal as saproptrophic nutrition.
ANSWER IN DETAIL IN TO EXPLAIN THE MECHANISM
Qs9: If we keep open the w heat dough, after few days; it starts to emit a foul smell and becomes a unfit for use in to explain the mechanism of photosynthesis. Why?
Ans9: Carbohydrate in wheat dough encourage the growth of yeast and other saprpphytic fungi which break into simpler compounds like carbon dioxide and alcohol. We get the foul smell from alcohol.
Qs10: A goat eats away all the leaves of a small plant like Balsam. In a few days, new leaves we can see sprouting in the plant again. How did the plant survive without leaves?
Ans10: Balsam plant has ability to store food in stem and roots. By this way this plant can survive without leaf.
